I was encouraged by Ed Miliband’s idea of putting solar panels on the roofs of schools and hospitals. (Miliband: Tories ‘betrayed’ next generation on energy, The Guardian, 21.3.25). I also like the idea of funding “community groups to build local clean power projects, such as community-owned onshore wind.” I don’t think the majority in East Anglia are against wind power but most people are against the unnecessary destruction of nature that globally-owned National Grid’s plans will cause. I suggest Miliband holds a meeting with Fiona Gilmore from Suffolk Energy Action Solutions, Rosie Pearson from Pylons, Saxmundham Against Needless Destruction and Alison Downes from Stop Sizewell C to discuss clean power. We have the perfect place and brilliant thinkers to pilot this idea.
