Tree branch

Sunset bike ride from Kenton Hills to Eastbridge and Eels Foot for Adnams and chips. Trees ringed with orange like African waist beads, one with a capital ‘E’ in green and an arrow pointing up. Four men in orange and protective glasses cranked open the four padlocks of the large green gates like a giant budgerigar’s cage to let me bike thought this Bridle Way that is still a Public Right of Way.

Got home to find a tree branch from my property blocking Pretty Road. Nature’s Revenge I thought. SZC can clear it up. Ten minutes later The Farmer is out there with his forklift truck, snapping off and lifting up the branch and laying it on his verge. I gave him the wood. It’s the least I can do. He reckoned some outsized vehicle in this narrow country lane had torn it off. A tree that’s been healthy for years. Whoever damaged it left it dangling, unreported, obstructing the road, dangerous as night was falling.

PM is at Sizewell tonight. Hurrah. At least they’ll see the road up, the fences, the sand quarries, the open landscapes – and rush hour is 5pm.
