Mending the garden hut found a pipistrelle bat under the blue eaves. Wild About Birds closed down at the wrong time; the birds are all hungry in the height of summer with acres of hedgerows cut down. A doe-eyed deer peered at me from the Pretty Road side as the construction workers move in. The area is fenced off at night. On my sunset bike ride the night before last a silver water truck pulled into the compound, turned round and left. Cyclists are holding out in all the diesel fumes and blocked roads. Had to dismount once and pull into lay-bys twice to let trucks past. Black motor bikes with black helmeted riders whizz up the lanes.
No refuge has been provided for all the displaced animals.
